The mood is low, of course. No one is //unaffected// by the disaster that has cost everyone their home. Well, almost everyone. Oberon and Marybelle will be fine. The city //is// their home. The family is trying to help Olivia – Ophelia has offered them a cup of rain water several times already – but it feels smothering. Don’t they know that Olivia is an adult? She’s 20! She completed an apprenticeship, she had a job and professional community and a purpose! Olivia knows that her siblings feel bad about leaving her behind, but they still seem to see her as the little child they abandoned. Olivia is not a child. She is an adult who had to build her whole life herself. And now that life has swept away in a flood that she could neither predict in time nor prevent. She is not a child, but she might as well be one, she thinks. She feels completely dependent again. Of course, the splitting hangover is only making the existential crisis worse. “Hey, Olivia!” someone shouts. Isaac? Olivia winces. “You packed your tools, right? I don’t trust any of those //city// builders. You’ll need to check over the house.” This, of course, immediately prompts an argument about the trustworthiness of craftspeople in the city. The Fisher family, for all that they’re getting on better, really has a talent for argument. It’s a good reminder though. The idea of doing masonry anywhere else feels overwhelming to Olivia, because the idea of the ringing of chisel on slate is unpleasant but more because the idea of working her trade anywhere but the town they lived their whole life is so alien as to seem impossible. She’s built a life on her own once. She’ll just have to be an adult and do the impossible once again. olivia_eternity.txt Last modified: 2025/12/09 18:18by gm_liana
